164 Days after Lockdown (or One Night in Portofino) - Friday 4th September, 2020

Tonight was a little different, and perhaps a new way we can socialise during these times.

The story is that I heard on the radio, in July, an interview with Jack Savoretti when he announced a 'drive-in' concert in Newmarket.  He is one of Maggie's favourite singers and so I immediately booked tickets, thinking that this was a perfect solution for us.  Two days later the concert was cancelled as the organisers could not guarantee not to be locked down.

Late last week I heard Jack Savoretti being interviewed again and heard an announcement that he was performing in Portofino for one night only, and live streaming the concert.

I checked to see if our friends Andrew & Alison, Steve & Marion, and at the last minute our granddaughter Grace with Jordan could attend, weather permitting for a bring your own picnic concert in the garden.  The idea was to give a surprise to Maggie after the disappointment of the cancelled drive-in

The arrangements were made, invitations sent, the weather looked ok and so I bought a projector and 120" large screen for less than the cost of the drive-in tickets. The ticket for the live-stream was only £12.00.

Only a little on food stories for this post.  We hoped we could get to try Marion's corned beef hash pie and not sure why we didn't. Our picnic was all store-bought as I didn't get time to organise the venue and cook.
The concert was great, the stream was good, the projection clear. Portofino looked nice, warm and romantic. We were warm enough huddled around fire pits. It worked overall, felt a little like we were participating in the concert and something I think we may repeat. Perhaps the ballet or a movie night. Have to work on keeping warm and dry though

222 Days after Lockdown - 1st November, 2020

Appetiser: Braised Fennel, Cod and Dill Oil Lunch: Roast Leg of Lamb, Hasselback Potatoes, Cavallo Nero, Pan-Fried Garlic Brussel Sprouts Dessert: Apple, Ginger Pudding with Caramel Sauce, Stem & Crystalised Ginger Ice Cream Sunday Lunch with a nice visit from Alan & Sue.  We have been working on some of these dishes and so you will see that with different guests,  we serve the same or similar menu Leg of Lamb was from Swiss Farm, great value at £18 for a good sized leg.  Roasted in the Monolith, basted with Rosemary & Garlic Oil.  Served pink.
