Breakfast: Sausage and Egg Sandwich Lunch: Pork Terrine & Pate, Pickles Dinner: Cod, Chips & Mushy Peas Dessert: Cherry Garcia Ice Cream Fish, Chips & Mushy Peas Breakfast: We had some Bratwurst left from the BBQ the previous evening.  These were from our delivery from Morrisons.  They are very good, closest I have had to traditional German Bratwurst Pork Terrine & Pate Lunch: Using the last of the terrine, and as it is VE Day, 2020 Maggie decided it was a 'heart' type of day as a little mark of respect Dinner: Adding to the theme of VE Day what is more traditional than Fish & Chips.  This was made with cod fillets from the fishmonger we use on a Tuesday in Earl Soham.  That is 5 different types of fish in the last couple of weeks and all of them excellent quality.  See the recipe for the batter - works every time This was with twice-cooked chips, thrice is better but you do have to have a little time Dessert:  C...

Day 44 : Wednesday 6th May, 2020

Breakfast: Bacon Sandwiches Lunch: Pork & Chicken Terrine, Beetroot, Pickles Dinner: Turbot & Fennel Baked with White Wine, Seared & Buttered Scallops, Saute Potatoes Baked Turbot & Seared Scallops Breakfast: We are nearly through all of the bacon we cured.  I am thinking about whether to try another ready made pack or make my own mix Lunch: The first terrine is almost finished, after giving some to friends. Pork Terrine Dinner: We visited the fish van in Earl Soham on Tuesday evening and bought a selection.  The prices were reasonable but I have to say I am very impressed with the quality. Turbot is without a doubt my favourite fish and this is so quick and easy . It would work with plaice or other flatfish - but why bother, just find some turbot Wine tonight is one of our regulars, and Maggies current favourite white. £7.50 from the co-op

Day 37 : Wendesday 29th April, 2020

Breakfast: Boiled Egg, Toast Lunch: Burrata and Tomato Dinner: Pan Fried Skate Wings, Bubble & Squeak, Baked Brocolli Skate Wings Breakfast: Maggie always marks my egg for boiling, 4 minutes to the second into boiling water.  Hers is boiled until hard.  Think she got a little carried away with the mark today Boiled Egg Lunch: Burrata with a little oil and salt, and tomatoes Burrata Dinner: Thanks to Georgina & Ron in Dennington for telling us about their fishmonger delivering to the door.  He also sells in Earl Soham outside the Victoria from 17:00 every Tuesday.  We tested the water this week with Skate and some cod fillets.  Price was about what we expected, perfectly fresh and he seems to have a good selection Pan fried skate is simplicity itself. Maggie prefers simple melted butter, but I like Buerre Noisette (Brown Butter) with capers. Pan Fried Skate Mash or Buttery New Potatoes also works well with this

Day 3 : Thursday 26th March, 2020

Breakfast : Home cured Bacon Sandwich Lunch :  Brocolli & Stilton Soup Dinner :  Hot Smoked Haddock, Creamed Cabbage Apple & Bacon, Fishcake Brocolli & Stilton Soup   Smoking Haddock Cabbage, Apple & Bacon Breakfast : We bought a Bacon Curing Kit from Ocado ( Ross & Ross ) when it was on offer (£11.50 - with enough kit to make 6 x 500g bacon joints - from which I cut 20 slices). The whole belly (2.2kilos) cost £15.00 from Swiss Farm.  It proved very successful, although I would butcher the belly to get better-formed bacon.   I also intend to try with a loin of pork to make back bacon, try curing salts instead of using a kit, and to try different meats to make Bresaola and other salumi Lunch : Was a use up of the broccoli and stalks from the previous day Dinner: We have been cooking Hot Smoked Salmon for a while now.  We spotted the fresh haddock on offer at Morrisons and decided to try the same pro...
